The risk of serious knee injuries can affect athletes across all sports, age groups, and skill levels. While complete prevention is not possible, targeted assessments can help identify key risk factors associated with these injuries.
Some risk factors relate to an athlete’s technique during activities such as jumping, landing, cutting, and pivoting. Others are linked to muscular strength deficits, particularly in the hips, hamstrings, and quadriceps.
Early identification of these factors enables practitioners to recommend focused areas for improvement within an athlete’s training program, potentially reducing injury risk.
The Sportsmetrics Sports Injury Test offers a comprehensive evaluation of these risk elements by examining aspects of strength, coordination, and body alignment.
This assessment involves video analysis of various movements—including drop jumps, single-leg squats, and triple hop tests—to evaluate lower body mechanics. Users can select specific frames to measure parameters such as knee separation distance during drop jumps, and knee and hip angles during squats and hops.
The accompanying application allows for the input of additional data points, including vertical jumps, 1-minute sit-up results, isokinetic testing data, 20-yard dash times, and VO2max measurements.
Furthermore, the platform includes sections for recording knee examination findings, general notes, and clinical recommendations. It generates a detailed report that provides side-by-side comparisons of pre- and post-training assessments.
Developed in conjunction with the Sportsmetrics ACL injury prevention program, this tool is intended for use by physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and coaches. However, it is not designed to replace professional medical testing or advice from healthcare specialists.
